Alexis Mac Allister expressed his appreciation for his midfield teammates following Liverpool’s impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester City, a result that extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to 11 points. The Argentine midfielder played a crucial role alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai as the Reds capitalized on Arsenal’s slip-up, with the Gunners falling to a disappointing home defeat against West Ham United the previous day.

Liverpool’s dominance at the Etihad was reinforced by another clinical display from Mohamed Salah, who netted his 30th goal of the season. Szoboszlai doubled the lead before halftime with a composed finish and later provided an assist for Curtis Jones, though the goal was ruled out for offside. Despite the setback, Szoboszlai’s recent performances have underlined his growing influence in Arne Slot’s system, while Gravenberch has earned widespread praise for his form across Europe this season.

Mac Allister, reflecting on the synergy within Liverpool’s midfield, highlighted the quality and balance that he, Szoboszlai, and Gravenberch have brought since their arrivals in the summer transfer window of 2023. “It’s always easier when you have good players around, and that’s our case,” he said. “We have a really good team and really good midfielders who came to the club at the same time as me, not long ago. We are complementing each other really well and we are happy to play with each other.”

Speaking about Szoboszlai’s impact, Mac Allister emphasized his teammate’s importance to the squad. “Yeah, Dom, he is really important for us. I think you could see physically he is really good; he can score and also assist. He is doing really well and is really important for us.” The Hungarian midfielder’s ability to contribute both offensively and defensively has made him a key figure in Liverpool’s pursuit of silverware this season.

Liverpool’s victory over City was another significant step towards reclaiming the Premier League title, though Mac Allister remained cautious about getting carried away. “It definitely was an important win. When you come to these places and play teams like Man City, you always want to win. Today we were really committed to what we wanted. Maybe we didn’t play as we wanted, we didn’t keep the possession as we wanted, but we had to defend, and we had to do it pretty well.”

Despite holding an 11-point advantage, he acknowledged that the title race remains far from over. “It is still a long way. We have the 11 points, but they have played one game less, so it is still the same. There are some really difficult games ahead.” The upcoming fixtures will test Liverpool’s ability to maintain consistency, especially with European and domestic challenges piling up.

Mac Allister also admitted that he had been keeping an eye on Arsenal’s result against West Ham, knowing the significance of every dropped point. “Of course, you watch the game. I did watch it when I got home—the last 30 minutes. You want them to lose, I think that is pretty normal because that makes our life easier. But we have many games ahead that are going to be really difficult, and we know they are a really good team who will push us as well.”

While the midfielder acknowledged the importance of monitoring title rivals, he made it clear that his preference is always to be on the pitch rather than watching from the sidelines. “When I watch, I don’t enjoy—I prefer to play them.” His competitive mindset reflects the determination within Liverpool’s squad as they look to sustain their momentum in the final months of the season.

Liverpool’s commanding position in the league, combined with the strength of their midfield, has put them in prime contention for another Premier League crown. With key players like Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Gravenberch stepping up at crucial moments, the Reds appear well-equipped to handle the challenges ahead.
